The Black Madonna
The small industrial town of Czestochowa (about 100 miles northwest of Krakow) is the world's third most important center of Catholic pilgrimage (after Lourdes and Rome.) Various miracles have been attributed to this painting of the Virgin Mary which was given to the Paulite monastic order in 1384.
