Heroes' Square
This Millenium Monument was designed to commemorate Hungary's Millennium Celebrations in 1896, but it was not completed until 1929. Archangel Gabriel stands atop the central column. At the base of the column are statues of Prince Arpa and six conquering Magyar warriors.

Heroes' Square
The Millenium Celebrations marked a high point in the history of Budapest and the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. Hundreds of houses, palaces and civic buldings were constructed, gas lighting was introduced and continental Europe's first underground transport was opened as part of a massive modernization.

The tympanum above the eight Corinthian columns depicts the Battle of the Centaurs and Lapiths, and is copied form the Temple of Zeus at Olympia, Greece.
