This is the Rynek Glowny (Main Market Place.) It was laid out in 1257 and is divided into two halves by the Sukiennice, once the center of the town's textile and clothing market. (That's the building you see behind Dick.)

Al - Krakow Market Square
Krakow was the only major city in Poland to come through WWII essentially undamaged. Ironically, it has been faced with major environmental problems resulting from the communist regime developing one of the largest steelworks in Europe in Krakow's suburbs. However, recent initiatives in pollution reduction have made Krakow's air cleaner than it has been in decades.
