We're still in Skansen, but this is a very typical and uniquely Swedish country/summer home.
Another view of the top of the Nordic Museum.
We left Skansen to head to the Vasa Museum and walked passed the Nordic Museum. Here's one last picture, including a King on a horse. Karen told us the kings around the city are all pointing at various places to conquer.
Mmmm.... ice cream....
Here we've arrived at the Vasa Museum. The full (short) story is that a 17th century warship called the Vasa sunk on her maiden voyage and was lost just into the Baltic sea for over 300 years. Roughly 50 years ago, they found it and dug it up. Now it is preserved and lives in this museum.
The inside of the Vasa was very dimly lit (presumably to protect the ship). Since the ship was really too large for my little built-in flash to handle, I had to take most of the rest of my pictures without the flash.
With no flash, I had to keep my shutter open pretty long, so many pictures are a little blurry... especially the moving targets. Perhaps bringing a tripod wouldn't have been such a bad idea.
A little to the right, here's another view basically from the bow.
Another from a little further back. It's too bad they built this museum with the big columns, but I guess that's better than having the ship buried again.
Off to the side is a scale model of the Vasa that also displays its sail configuration. One of the original sails was actually found and preserved and is on display in the museum.
