The stern of the Vasa. Before it capsized, the sculptures were presumed to be painted.
On the wall here they had a reproduction of the carvings with a slide projector that shows how it might have looked. The slides change to illuminate particular sections and describe them.
I took this picture of the stern with the flash on. With a little touchup work, you can kind of see it.
At the top of the stern is an image of the prince being crowned king bu a pair of griffins. I guess my hands were shaking.
I found something to rest the camera on and got a real nice shot from the stern.
The camera is in the same place, this time looking once more at the carved stern.
One more attempt where I forgot to turn off the flash. This gives you a little idea as to how dim it was.
Here's the same picture, but with a much longer exposure.
We left the Vasa museum and walked back towards the ferry to Gamla Stan. Karen and Magnus decided to ride their bikes back and were kind enough to stop for information about some tour boats along the way.
Look, a fire-engine red Volvo 740 wagon! Looks like this one may not have the turbo charger.
