The first stop on our walking tour was the Royal
Palace. The Royal Family no longer lives here, but some functions are
still held here for tradition. The palace is about twice as long as it
is wide, so it continues back quite a bit. |
We weren't allowed to take any pictures inside the
palace, so I'm afraid you don't get to see it. Here is the view from
the other end, though. |
A little sidewalk cafe next to the Great Church. The
church is right next to the palace, and I mean _right_ next to it.
Everything is built up very close to the palace -- there are no "palace
grounds". |
Here's a better view of the bell tower. |
The next stop on our tour was Stortorget, which we saw
earlier in the trip. Here's the Nobel Museum, where they meet to
decide who has won the Nobel Prize in Literature each year. Sadly,
they weren't giving out any free samples. |
Another shot in Stortorget, showing some more sidewalk
cafes. They've been busy every time we've walked past. |
We didn't have much time so we skipped a little of the
walking tour and headed towards Riddarholmen, the Island of Knights.
This was a cool street along the way. |
Also along the way was this major pedestrian shopping
street, still in old town. |
Before crossing over to Riddarholmen, we got a great
view of the Riddarholms Kyrkan (Church). It was built in 1270 and
houses the tombs 17 Swedish Kings from over four centuries. |
Looking down the street away from the church was a nice
view of the waterfront. |
